koders.com Eclipse Plug-in Released

December 01, 2005

My favorite java cookbook, Koders.com, has just released a plug-in that lets you search for code snippets within Eclipse.

Personally, alt-tabbing over to Firefox and doing the search manually is quite painless and I rarely look for snippets like this, but it was worth a look.  In addition to the search box (shown above) there's a "SmartSearch" feature that looks for matching snippets as you type.

Here, I typed the method signature for a method that converts a String to Base64 and the plug-in is showing me that there are 15 matching code snippets available.  Perfect, since I don't want to be recoding the Base64 algorithm when it's open and publicly available.  View a demo video (5mb) or download here.
